Book, Photo Album & Sketchbook Restoration Services

If you are considering restoring a much-loved book, photo album, or sketchbook, here are a few practical points to keep in mind before getting in touch.

Understanding your needs

  • Assessment: Please send as many clear photographs as possible of the item and the areas of concern. Your quote will be based on these images. An initial assessment fee applies. If, after receiving and reviewing the item, the work proves not to be possible, a €50 retainer will be deducted from the original payment.
  • Deadline: Let me know if you are working towards a particular date. Restoration is careful, hands-on work and lead times can vary.
  • Budget: If you have a budget in mind, please share it. This helps me suggest an approach that respects both the book and your expectations.
  • Your goal: Is the restoration for a "Rebind & New look" or restoring usability & Aesthetic

Clear communication at this stage avoids misunderstandings later.

Credentials

I work independently from my small micro-bindery in North Leitrim, where I practise traditional bookbinding as a self-taught craft. Each project is approached with care, patience, and a strong respect for the materials and the purpose of the book.

You can browse the photo gallery below to see examples of previous work and get a sense of the style, craftsmanship, and finish you can expect.

To help answer common questions, a FAQ section is included at the bottom of the page, outlining what I can do and where a conservator may be needed. If you have a specific project in mind or would like to discuss your options, you are always welcome to get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of books can be repaired or restored?

We restore journals, softcover and hardcover books, sketchbooks, and photo albums, returning them to a functional and aesthetic state using careful, handmade techniques.

Can you repair damaged spines, loose pages, or detached covers?

Yes. We also repair tears, worn corners, and cosmetic damage, stabilising your book while maintaining its character.

How do I know if my book is suitable for restoration?

Most books can be restored. Please note that we focus on emotionally meaningful books rather than rare, first edition, or high-value items. Restoration enhances aesthetic and functionality, not financial value.

Do you work on family heirlooms or antique books?

Yes, we consider all projects. After assessing your book and goals, we’ll confirm if we can restore it or recommend a trained conservator for high-value or historically significant items.

Can I send my book for repair by post?

Absolutely. You can send books by post or courier, or book a private consultation for a face-to-face discussion. Items are returned by tracked courier for peace of mind.
