A richly textured Lokta journal crafted for reflection, memory, and slow writing.

This tactile journal is made entirely with traditional Nepali Lokta paper — a remarkable material handcrafted from sustainably harvested Daphne bark. Naturally resistant to insects and humidity, Lokta has been trusted for centuries to preserve legal and sacred texts.

Inside, thick handmade sheets reveal soft fibres, gentle texture, and organic deckled edges that celebrate the beauty of slow papermaking. Each page feels alive beneath the hand, inviting thoughtful writing, sketching, or memory keeping.

The cover is formed from heavy oiled Lokta paper — vegan, durable, and lightly waterproof. Its structure offers a firm, protective feel while remaining flexible enough to travel comfortably. A cord fastening completes the rustic silhouette.

A journal that will age gracefully, deepening in character with every touch.

Material Guide

COVER MATERIAL: Handcrafted from sustainably harvested Daphne bark, Lokta paper carries a thousand year legacy in its soft, textured surface—brought to life through traditional batik, woodblock prints, and sun dried sheets that honour Nepal’s mountain artisans. Each piece celebrates natural variation in colour, weight, and pattern, offering a beautifully durable, eco conscious canvas that supports rural communities and preserves a timeless craft.

WRITING PAPER - Made on an original 19th-century papermaking machine from a now-closed mill, this paper invites a slower, more thoughtful writing experience. Naturally warm in tone, each page carries subtle inclusions — vegetal fibres and traces of upcycled banknotes — creating a gentle texture beneath the hand. The result is a paper that feels alive: responsive to pen and pencil, softly grounding, and rich with character, where history and nature come together to support creativity on the page.

Binding

Style: COPTIC BINDING

Fact: Coptic binding is an ancient 2nd-century AD technique from early Christian Egypt, considered one of the earliest true codex forms. It features an exposed spine with decorative chain-stitch sewing, uses no glue, and relies entirely on thread for strength. This allows the book to open completely flat, even back on itself, making it ideal for sketchbooks and artist journals. The spine is traditionally left exposed, but can be covered, the sewing hidden or exposed; the rhythmic sewing pattern provides both structure and beauty.
